FLIRC will save the code as one that should be converted to that specific keystroke combination. The process of normally "teaching" the FLIRC which infra-red code does what is pretty easy, you just click the keyboard combination from FLIRC's software, and then press the remote's button to send the infra-red code. The last thing is setting up your harmony remote with the infra-red commands to send to FLIRC, which is configured to send them as keystrokes to the HTPC. if you want, i could probably share my FLIRC configuration file with you when you get your device. What this small USB device does, is receive infra-red codes (from the harmony remote) and convert them to pre-configured keyboard combinations (through the FLIRC software). you can get one through ebay for instance:

The strokes are sent to the PC (or your HTPC) through the FLIRC device. The Flirc is really good and infinitely customisable but in my experience it does take a bit of time to get it set up just how you want it especially when you’re dealing with programming a harmony remote as well.I hope i got what you're asking right, but the autohotkey scripts (which assign a keyboard combination to let's say start Plex) are being triggered by keyboard strokes.

(You’d want to look up what the default keys are to perform different actions in Kodi or find them by trial an error)īecause it’s a keyboard device you can test some of your mappings by plugging it into a PC and running notepad or other text editor - for example the stop button should be mapped to x so when you press the stop button you should get an x on any device the Flirc is plugged into. I think there is now a predefined profile that you can configure using the Flirc programming software, (which must be run on a Mac or PC) but I set mine up manually by learning the keys one by one. So it needs to be taught to send the right keys to Kodi when you send certain IR codes from the remote. Harmony users can now add a flirc device to their remote where no codes will collide with their television, the protocol is fine tuned for flirc, and setup just got a whole lot easier. To upgrade to the latest firmware, grab the latest download on the website. You can fire up the GUI to check the firmware version. Make sure you have the at least firmware version 2.6. The next thing you need to do is program the Flirc itself - as mentioned it is completely programmable and can be made to “press” any key in response to any IR code from any remote. Harmony setup for Kodi on Windows If youre using an OEM IR receiver, enter the manufacturer as Microsoft and the model as Kodi. The Harmony has a built in profile for XBMC that's been fine tuned to work perfectly with flirc. Many are configured by default but not all are and you might want to reassign them. Within your harmony configuration you may need to map the buttons under customise buttons in the device and/or activity so that when you press up it sends the up command and so on. There is a profile in the harmony database that is set aside specifically for the Flirc and has a good selection of buttons, as described in the article you linked - so I would use that, and I think that’s what I used myself. It’s a long time since I set up my Flirc (nearly 2 years) so I don’t remember the exact details of what I did but basically it can be “taught” to send almost any keyboard keystroke from almost any IR code, so technically it doesn’t matter what remote profile you use on your Harmony as long as none of your other devices will respond to it! (Eg don’t use an Xbox mediacenter remote if you also have an Xbox 360…)
Ensure that for the activity you created for the XBMC is powered off when not in use. Change the power settings to 'One key turns the device on and off' and set it to Poweroff. The flirc emulates a USB keyboard not a remote control, so you won’t have any luck changing settings in the Remotes section as it does not appear as a Remote. In the harmony remote settings (The harmony software) edit the XMBC device (IE the Flirc profile for the XBMC). I have a Flirc that I use on my Mac Mini with a Harmony one.
